    No : the lines have unequal slopes

    Parallel lines have equal slopes

    calculate the slope( m) of each line using the gradient formula

    m = (y₂ – y₁ ) / (x₂ – x₁ )

    with (x₁, y₁ ) = (- 7, 2) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (7, – 6 )

    m = \frac{-6-2}{7+7} = \frac{-8}{14} = – \frac{4}{7}

    slope of other line using

    (x₁, y₁ ) = (- 1, – 5 ) and (x₂, y₂ ) = (- 3, – 1 )

    m = \frac{-1+5}{-3+1} = \frac{4}{-2} = – 2

    lines are not parallel since slopes are unequal
