    f(x) = 3x – 2, g(x) = 6 – 4x

    f(x) + g(x) = (3x – 2) + (6 – 4x)

    = 3x – 2 + 6 – 4x       combine like terms

    = (3x – 4x) + (-2 + 6)

    = -x + 4
